Mr. Staph Leavenworth Bakali - Co-Founder

Staph is an entrepreneurial CEO/COO with 20 years of experience leading global businesses. He has extensive hands-on experience in emerging markets having lived and worked in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Staph also has significant experience in servicing low-income populations including the development of a low-cost, yet profitable, combination vaccine to serve children across the 70 poorest countries. Staph is a seasoned deal-maker, having negotiated several cross-border partnerships, including distribution agreements, and M&A transactions in Europe, North America and International markets. He serves on the board of three publicly listed companies as a Non-Executive Director and holds an MSc from London Business School.

Futhi Mtoba

Futhi is Chairperson of the Board of Deloitte (South Africa). She is also Director and Chair of the Investment Committee of the South African Public Investment Corporation, managing $60 billion in public pension funds. She serves on the boards of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Public Accountants and Auditors Board, the Money Laundering Advisory Board, and the Financial Services Advisory Board. Futhi has received numerous awards, including South African Business Woman of the Year.


Paolo De Martin

Paolo is Group Chief Financial Officer of SCOR Group, a leading global reinsurer with operations in 120 countries and annual premium income of over €6 billion. Previously, he served as CFO of Converium, a Swiss reinsurance firm, following a progressive 11-year career at General Electric that culminated as CFO of GE Frankona Group. He began his career as a member of GE’s reputed internal auditing and consulting group, with assignments in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Early in his career, he was Managing Partner and Founder of an Italian eyewear manufacturer. He holds a Masters in Business Economics from Ca’ Foscari University, Italy.

Felipe Medina

Felipe is the Regional Director for Latin America Private Wealth Management of Goldman Sachs. He began his career in Goldman Sachs in 1990 managing assets for Latin American clients and formed the largest team in the region. Currently, Felipe spends 20% of his time analyzing the social investment field in Latin America, focusing on projects that generate sustainable development in the region. He sits in the board of several organizations that operate in the region.


Josh Mailman

Josh is President of Sirius Business Corporation, a NY-based global investment firm. He has 25 years experience investing in social businesses, and was a founding investor in Grameen Phone and Seventh Generation. He also co-founded Business for Social Responsibility and the Social Venture Network, which brings together private investors, company founders and social entrepreneurs to create a more sustainable society through business. Josh serves on the boards of Human Rights Watch and Witness.

Mats Lederhausen

Mats is CEO and Founder of BE-CAUSE, a company which focuses on building businesses with a purpose bigger than their product. This focus comes from a strong belief that purpose is paramount in today's marketplace. Previously, Mats was the Managing Director of McDonalds Ventures, where he drove high-growth global companies including Chipotle and Pret a Manger. After a long career at McDonald's Corporation, Mats currently serves as a senior advisor to the McDonalds' management team on both asset management and brand trust.

Peter Kellner

Peter is Founder and Managing Director of Richmond Management, a firm that manages investments in venture capital, hedge funds, private equity funds, and technology businesses. Richmond has sponsored funds in the U.S., India, China, and Central Europe. Previously, Peter was a founder of several companies and organizations, including Russia's Ural Petroleum Corporation (later KMOC), sold to Marathon Oil; Endeavor Global, which is pioneering economic development through entrepreneurship in Latin America, Africa, and Turkey; and Vectis Group, a global investment consortium. Peter sits on the boards of Obopay and Voxiva.

Craig Churchill

Craig Churchill has microfinance experience in both developed and developing countries including Get Ahead Foundation in South Africa, ACCION International and the MicroFinance Network in the U.S., and Calmeadow in Canada. In his current position in the ILO's Social Finance Programme, he focuses primarily on the role of financial services that the poor can use to manage risks and reduce their vulnerability. He serves of the Chair of the CGAP Working Group on Microinsurance. His most recent publication is Protecting the Poor: A Microinsurance Compendium.

Sari Miller

Sari Miller is President of Sarjay, Inc., which she founded 26 years ago. She has represented global commercial clients in purchasing transactions all over the United States and Europe. She was a Partner, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a company sold to AIG, Inc. Concurrently, as a founder, Sari Miller served on the Board of Directors, and was Chair of the Executive and Investment Committees of a publicly held insurance company with assets exceeding $1 billion. She directed a $60+ million capital campaign and its subsequent sale. She has been involved in insurance related businesses since 1986. She is a founding investor in many entrepreneurial ventures.

Valeria Budinich

Valeria has 20 years of business development experience in 22 countries. She is Vice President of Ashoka, the organization that pioneered support for social entrepreneurs in 60 countries. She leads the global Hybrid Value Chain initiative to deliver products and services to small producers and low-income families. HVC is pioneering sustainable and profitable business-social partnerships between nonprofits and large companies. Previously, Valeria was the founding Vice President of Endeavor Latin America.


Josh Gottheimer

Josh is Executive Vice President, Worldwide, at Burson-Marsteller, one of the largest communications firms globally with offices in 82 countries. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Special Assistant to the President and Presidential Speechwriter to President Bill Clinton. After leaving the White House, Josh was a Senior Advisor to the United States Commission on Civil Rights and a founding partner of the Cambridge Writers Group. He went on to be Director of Strategic Communications at Ford Motor Company, before joining Burson-Marsteller. Josh appears regularly on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News.

John Simba

John is a leading lawyer and businessman based in Nairobi, Kenya, and serves as Senior Partner at Simba and Simba Advocates. He chairs and sits on the boards of several major Kenyan organisations, including the Nairobi University Council, Pan Africa Insurance Holdings and APA Insurance Limited. He chaired the Retirement Benefits Authority at the time the regulations were rewritten and brought in line with best practice. He has also served on the boards of VISA International (CEMA Region), the Kenya Banker’s Association, and the Centre for Development of Enterprises. John is a member of the International Bar Association and The Commonwealth Lawyers Association.
